How to Get a Global Entry Interview Faster

If you're interested in Global Entry, the wait time for an interview can be months long. Here are some tips on how to get a Global Entry interview faster and speed up the approval process.  

What is Global Entry?  

Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the U.S. from international trips.  

Benefits include using automated kiosks to clear customs, reduced wait times for immigration and customs checks, and TSA Precheck benefits for U.S. airport security. Global Entry costs $100 for a 5 year membership.

The Application Process  

To apply for Global Entry you must:

1. Fill out the online application form

2. Pay the $100 application fee   

3. Pass a background check 

4. Complete an in-person interview at an enrollment center

5. Undergo biometric verification including photo and fingerprints

The time between submitting your global entry application and securing an interview appointment can typically range from 2 to 8 months, depending on demand and location. However, there are ways to expedite the approval process and obtain an interview slot faster.

Ways to Speed Up the Process   

1. Apply at Non-Peak Times  

Global Entry interviews are usually scheduled months in advance. Apply during slower seasons like fall and winter to get an interview slot faster.

2. Check Multiple Enrollment Centers       

When scheduling your interview select multiple enrollment centers within a reasonable distance. The options with the earliest available appointments will appear first.   

3. Apply Before a Long Trip

If you have an international trip coming up, apply for Global Entry before your departure. This may motivate CBP to schedule your interview sooner.   

4. Visit an Enrollment Center in Person   

Showing up in person at a Global Entry center may result in an on-the-spot interview if they have availability. Call ahead to confirm they can accommodate walk-ins.   

5. Opt for Conditional Approval    

If you have an urgent need for Global Entry, opting for "conditional approval" can expedite the process. You complete all application steps except the interview and use the kiosks on a conditional basis until your interview is scheduled.

7. Consider a Trusted Traveler Program Comparison
