After receiving scathing remarks and a hostile response from netizens, Farhan Akhtar came up with a follow-up tweet in which he declared Shah Rukh's departure from the franchise by saying "The time has now come to carry his legacy Don to the next level."

The talented director also spoke about the upcoming Don 3 the chase ends actor (reportedly Ranveer Singh) saying, "Joining us in this new version would be an actor whose talents and versatility I've always admired."

Is Ranveer Singh the new Don?

When Ritesh Sdhiwani, co-producer behind SRK's iconic franchise, announced of working on the third season of the highly acclaimed crime drama series the SRK fans were in awe and began looking forward to watching their beloved actor time again playing one of his most well-known characters, Mark Donald AKA Don on the big screen.

But, the fan's expectations and excitement were short-lived when they were soon blurred out following several reports that claimed the departure of SRK from Don 3 was being circulated across the web. According to the same reports, that, following Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer is going to be the third star who will fill Don's shoes. Don.

It all started with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sdhiwani purchasing the rights to Amitabh Bachchan's 1978s hit Don after negotiating a lucrative deal with its creators.

The filmmakers then made a new film version of the iconic crime film featuring Shah Rukh Khan as the principal actor in the year 2006. Much to the delight of everyone, the film did well at the box office and made Shah Rukh Khan the current and Undisputed King of Tinsel Town.

Then in the year, after Farhan and Ritesh made an update to the film called Don 2 theaters were packed and a host of shows were greeted by Shah Rukh once again as Don when the film raked in an estimated 203 crore rupees at the box office. It also was the second highest-grossing Hindi film for the whole year.

After the massive success of the 1st and 2nd installments, the makers have decided to create the final installment of the iconic franchise Don The Chase is over. But this time, SRK disappointed his supporters and walked out of the film leaving makers with no option other than to find a new Don to complete their final installment of this franchise.

What was it that made SRK refuse to accept Don 3?

According to the reports one of the main reasons for Shah Rukh's abandon Don was his decision to concentrate on commercial movies that have the potential to appeal to an even larger segment of the population. Since Don isn't in those categories, SRK might have lost interest and decided to leave the shots.

There are reports that before the outbreak of the covid 19 virus, Farhan and Samji even held a meeting together with Shah Rukh during which, the filmmakers attempted to lure the actor into the film and even talked about the script with the actor. But, Shah Rukh made it clear to them that he's not looking forward to being seen on screen in Don 3 at this crucial stage in his career.
